Assignment #9: Scale, Framing, Depth, & Simplicity

7. Overall Marks:
- Shoot one photograph using the Scale.
- Perspective and distance between the two elements within the frame can effect the apparent size and scale of the subject(s).
- Shoot one photograph using the Framing.
- Using man made or natural features to frame your pictures is a great way to tighten up the overall composition, get rid of annoying details and direct attention towards your subject.
3. Depth.
- Shoot one photograph using the Depth.
- This one will be trickier. It takes time to develop an “eye.”
- Consider the foreground, middle ground, and background of your image. Be aware of what is in your frame and try to compose the shot to draw the viewer “into” the shot.
4. Simplicity.
- Shoot one photograph using the Simplicity.
- Compose your picture to fill the frame so that it contains only the visual information you want in the photo. Extra information can confuse or distract your viewer.
- Create a new folder titled “MonthDay_Scale_Framing_Depth_Simplicity”
- Create 2 folders within this one: “Originals” and “Edited”
- Upload your new photos the “Originals” folder within a new folder
6. Blogging.
- Post one photograph for each of the compositional rules (4 photos in total).
- Write a brief 150 word summary describing what you noticed. You may wish to describe each of the compositional rules, to describe your choice of subjects/scenes.
- This should be posted to your blog along with a photograph(s) you took.
- No editing required on your photos.
7. Overall Marks:
- Scale, Framing, Depth, & Simplicity: 20 marks (5 marks per photograph)
Each of the four photographs will be assessed for: Focus & Clarity and Visual Interest & Composition - Blogging: 10 marks
